Correct History and Physical Exam by an Ear Specialist is vitally important. Treatment in the first week is of vital importance and affects outcome dramatically. Dr. Wladecki states that if the ear is treated in the first week, hearing can possibly be regained in up to 50-75% of cases. After the first week- success drops well below 25%.
